Grab That iPod/iPad/iPhone and Study for the SAT
There are two major study strategies for succeeding at the SAT (and ACT). The first is understanding the tips and tricks on taking the test. The other is to drill in the content.
There are some great apps that will help make the study time go faster and maybe even be a little fun. Just 15-30 minutes a day can help those scores rise.
Each of these is a little different and some cover tips and tricks as well as content drills. They range in price from free to $9.99, download the samples to check them out before purchasing to see if they work for you. Mix them up to combat boredom and study fatigue. Here are just a few that have been used by my students in the past; I'll add more as I see them and get feedback.
- Allen Test prep (they have sample overview for free, but each topic is $9.99).
- Accelastudy
- Kaplan SAT Flashcubes (this has been a favorite among many of my students)
- SAT QOTD (Question of the Day)
- SAT Vocab (or Math) For dummies
- Score Quest by Princeton Review (another favorite). This one has 2 modes; SAT Score Quest (skills testing) and SAT Core Concepts (1-3 minute videos that explain core testing concepts - these are very popular, but I believe only work on the iPad). This one is also $9.99.
This is a great way to integrate SAT studying into your everyday schedule. It may not completely replace classes or tutoring - Discuss with your counselor to determine your best test prep strategy.
